DMT

The Dimethylterephthalate Plant, more commonly known as DMT, is the plant closest to the Old Hickory Dam. Startup of the first plant began in 1959. The original DMT plant was dismantled and a new one constructed during the 70s.

DMT is a primary ingredient used in the manufacture of polyesters and industrial plastics.  It is a molten material (329° F) and is used in the production of automotive parts, film, fishing line, and food packaging. DMT was originally used in the production of Dacron polyester fiber.

Specially designed trucks are used to haul the molten material from Old Hickory to DMT's customers.  On a daily basis, these trucks begin their journey on Old Hickory Blvd.  Chance are you have seen these trucks and not even realized that they contain a DuPont product.
