What you will need:

  • A parent or teacher

  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream or milk

  • cooking pot

  • vinegar

1. Ask your parents to help you warm 1/2 cup of heavy cream/milk in a pot on the stove.
2. Once the milk begins to simmer (just before boiling), stir in 3-4 spoons of vinegar.  Slowly add more vinegar until the mixture begins the gel.
3. Rinse the mixture with water.  You will see small pieces of plastic.

What do you think caused the plastic to form?

Answer:  A chemical reaction between the vinegar and a substance in the milk reacted to form the plastic.
