  What you will need:

  • a jar

  • vegetable oil

  • water

  • food coloring

1. Fill the jar with half water
2. Place a few drops of food coloring in the water.
3. Add vegetable oil to the water.
4. Put the lid on the jar and shake the mixture.

Do the oil and water mix?  Why do you think they don't mix?

Answer: Oil and water are not soluble in each other.  Water also has a higher density than oil. Naturally, the two will not mix.
